  • AseraCare Executive Appointed to Community Health Accreditation Program’s Board of Review

    PLANO, Texas, Jan. 12, 2012 — AseraCare has been recognized for quality hospice care and skilled home healthcare by the Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP). Pam Burford, Director of Clinical Operations, has been appointed by the CHAP Board of Directors to a three-year term on the CHAP Board of Review (BOR). The board is composed of nine members who are selected from organizations that have achieved CHAP accreditation with no or minimal deficiencies over at least two accreditation cycles.

    It may surprise many people to learn that 25 percent of those who die every year in the U.S. are veterans.

    To help provide care and support that reflect the important contributions made by these men and women, AseraCare Hospice has become a national partner of We Honor Veterans, a pioneering campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

  • Songs to Soothe the Soul

    Virginia Smith spent the last months of her life sitting expressionless in her bed or on her sofa. But when members of the Doylestown Comfort Choir went to her Northampton home one evening to sing to her, daughter Sherry Smith said, “Her face just lit up and glowed. She smiled. She actually tried to sing along with some of the songs.”

    The full choir met once a month to practice the music, and divided into smaller groups of six to visit hospice patients at Pine Run, Neshaminy Manor, Golden Living and Heritage Towers.

  • Caregiving project kicks off in Harrison County

    Almost 20 family caregivers and others who work with family caregivers attended a kickoff event on Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Harrison County Extension office, Logan. The event explored issues surrounding family caregiving, and helping identify the assets and gaps in support services in the county. Funding for the project is provided, in part, by AseraCare Hospice Foundation.

  • Obituary for Lucille Hogg-Lynch, helped by AseraCare Hospice

    Lucille Hogg-Lynch, affectionately known as Little Ludy, was born Jan. 8, 1925, to the late Elzy Bowen and Betty E. Lewis-Bowen. She departed this life the morning of Dec. 12 surrounded by her children. The Hogg family would like to thank all of the staff of Aseracare Hospice for the wonderful service provided to their family during her illness.

Hospice also focuses on helping families through the trauma of losing a loved one, both during the process and for up to a year afterwards.

  • Ovarian cancer walk raises $22,000

    The second annual Glenda Hooper-Macut Ovarian Cancer Walk/Run was a success, organizer Cathi Hooper said. More than 45 sponsors pledged to the event, with the largest being HACC, PinnacleHealth Hospitals and AseraCare Hospice Foundation.

  • Aseracare Hospice Supports Honor Bus With $1,000 Donation

    Aseracare Hospice presented a $1,000 check to Warren/Forest Eldercare Council on Sept. 7 to support the Honor Bus Tour. The donation was made through the Golden Living Community Support Initiative Grant Program in which charitable contributions are given in support of worthy non-profit community or regional organizations. Since its inception in 2005, more than 1,570 grants totalling almost $1.5 million have been given to local communities in which Aseracare serves.

    After Ron Koontz's wife, Bonnie, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in February of 2010, it took two doses of chemotherapy before the doctors told them she had four to six months to live. AseraCare Hospice became part of their lives.

  • AseraCare Hospice Remembering a Loved One

    AseraCare Hospice holds a bereavement picnic once a year to honor those who have died in the last year. It gives the families of hospice patients and the hospice staff a chance to reconnect. This week, families released dozens of balloons into the skies above Chautauqua Park in Beatrice, Nebraska.
